Sale of Meat Products in Ukraine

Meat is an integral part of the daily diet and is included in many meal plans. Meat dishes are an excellent source of protein, vitamin B12 and other nutrients. Of course, the amount of nutrients depends on the type of meat and how it is prepared. Most of us cannot imagine traditional dishes without meat.

In this category the National Classifieds Board NDO publishes offers for the sale of meat products across Ukraine. Here you can buy for personal use or for business chicken, turkey, veal, duck, goose, rabbit, or fatty pork and sausages made from it.

Types of meat

Animal meat is classified by:

  • type of slaughtered livestock: beef, lamb, goat, pork, horse, venison, rabbit. Meat from wild animals is also distinguished: moose, roe deer, bears, red deer, wild boar, etc.;
  • thermal processing: cooled to a temperature not above 12 °C, chilled (temperature from 0 to -4 °C), slightly frozen (throughout the half-carcass temperature from -2 to -3 °C), frozen (to a temperature not above -8 °C);
  • degree of fattening (determined by muscle development, amount of fat deposits, and prominence of bones).

Sausages, wieners, frankfurters, meat delicacies, semi-finished products, canned goods and other meat products are divided into categories depending on the content of muscle tissue in the recipe (which is especially useful when choosing canned products):

  1. A — over 80%.
  2. B — from 60% to 80%.
  3. C — from 40% to 60%.
  4. D — from 20% to 40%.
  5. E — no more than 20%.

What to pay attention to when choosing meat products

First of all, the label. A certain guarantee of the quality of a particular meat product can be the mark of compliance with DSTU. It is worth noting that many enterprises simply cannot afford to produce “GOST” meat products and prepare them according to various TU (that is, specially developed Technical Conditions).

To confuse the buyer when choosing a meat product, manufacturers use the following trick. In the product name they include words that create certain associations in our minds, but the product itself may not correspond to them.

In addition, the producer must include their contact details on the label of the meat product, indicate the composition, the grade of the meat product, the production and expiration dates (and do so in a way that they can be easily read).
