    Variety CAZAKU Walnut Cazacu (Juglans regia Cazacu) is the most sought-after commercial variety among walnut growers in Ukraine. It is classified as a high-yielding grafted walnut variety. The Cazacu walnut variety was entered into the State Register of Plant Varieties of Ukraine in 2005. Among people it is also called the "domestic" walnut. Description of the variety and its advantages: A vigorously growing grafted tree with a dense crown and protogynous flowering type. Kozaku differs from other varieties by good tolerance of any weather conditions and high productivity. It has an excellent, above-average rating of resistance to the most dangerous disease of walnut — brown leaf spot or Marssonina. Growth rate and vigor: a vigorously growing tree in its youth; growth rate is suppressed during the fruiting period. Shoots: brown in color, grayish at the base. Leaves: oblong in shape with an even leaf margin, green, matte color. Flowers: female flowers bloom from April 27 to May 5, and pistillate (female) flowers open 6–7 days earlier than staminate (male) ones. Flowering period: in the Ukrainian climate the Cazacu walnut begins flowering in April and finishes in May. Description of fruit Nuts are medium-sized (more than 10 g) and have a cylindrical shape. The apex is slightly convex with a flat base. The shell is smooth, light yellowish in color, fairly thin with weakly expressed ribs. The kernel is white, fills the inner part of the nut well and constitutes approximately 60% of their weight. They have a golden-yellow kernel skin. The nut-bearing period occurs in mid-October. Light requirements/insolation: sunny locations that are lit from all sides are recommended; can also grow in semi-shaded places. Tolerates full shade. Moisture requirements: the walnut is undemanding to watering. Compared to numerous seed-propagated walnut varieties, the Cazacu variety has proven itself excellently with good tolerance to any weather conditions and high yields. In one productive year yield is about 3.5–4 t/ha. Juglans regia Cazacu is classified as a high-yielding grafted walnut variety: 100 kg or more from an adult tree.
