Knife for stalk shredder for Corn Plant header (KMS-8)
Purpose
The knife for the stalk shredder of the Corn Plant header (KMS-8) is used in the system for shredding corn stalks after they are cut during harvest. It is part of the rotary shredder installed in the lower part of the header and is responsible for finely shredding coarse-stem residues — to improve decomposition, reduce residue volume, and prepare the field for the next cultivation.
Design
The knife is made of hardened steel and has a shape with a hole for mounting to the rotor.
The knife features:
-
A thickened cutting edge to reduce wear;
-
Balanced geometry that provides stable rotor operation;
-
Universal mounting.
Principle of operation
During header operation:
-
The rotary-type shredder rotates at high speed, driven by the tractor PTO through a system of gearboxes.
-
The knives perform cutting and crushing of the corn stalk residues passing through the rotor.
-
The shredded mass is dispersed, forming a layer of mulch.
Even shredding promotes rapid organic matter decomposition, weed suppression, and moisture retention.
Advantages
- High wear resistance
Thanks to heat treatment and high-quality steel, the knives last a long time even in harsh conditions (wet stubble, sand, soil).
- Full compatibility
The knife’s dimensions and holes match the standards of the KMS-8 shredder rotor — quick replacement without modification.
- Balanced rotor operation
The precise weight and geometry of the knives minimize vibrations and reduce load on bearings and gearboxes.
- Easy installation
The ability to quickly replace the knife without disassembling the entire assembly.
