Row gearbox assembly for Corn Plant corn header (KMS-8)
The row gearbox is intended for:
-
Receiving torque from the header's main drive shaft.
-
Transmitting that torque to the stalk-pulling rollers and feed chains of each row with the required speed and rotation direction.
-
Ensuring coordinated operation of all moving elements of the row for optimal ear separation and minimization of losses.
-
Protecting the working components from overloads and mechanical damage.
Design and principle of operation:
Gearbox type: A gear gearbox providing high reliability and transmission accuracy. Combinations of spur or bevel gears are often used.
Housing: The gearbox housing is made of high-strength cast iron, providing structural rigidity, durability and effective heat dissipation. The housing is sealed to prevent dust, dirt and moisture ingress, and typically contains an oil bath for lubrication.
Input shaft (driving): Receives torque from the header's main transmission. It rotates around its axis and transmits motion to the internal gear system. Installation of a safety cam coupling is recommended.
Output shafts (driven): The gearbox has several output shafts that drive different row components:
-
Stalk-pulling roller shafts: Two shafts per row rotating in opposite directions to grasp and pull stalks. The gearbox provides coordinated rotational speed for effective ear separation.
-
Drive shafts for feed chains: Drive the chains with lugs that guide stalks to the rollers. The speed of these chains is synchronized with the speed of the pulling rollers.
Gear trains: Inside the gearbox there is a set of gears that transmit and convert torque. The gear configuration is selected to ensure optimal working member speeds for different harvesting conditions.
Bearings: All rotating shafts and gears are mounted on high-quality bearings, providing low friction, high rotational accuracy and durability.
Lubrication system: The gearbox operates in an oil bath, providing constant and effective lubrication of all moving parts. A special gearbox oil for corn headers is used (for example, NLGI grade 0), which withstands high loads and temperatures. Oil level is monitored by installed plugs. Periodic lubricant replacement (according to the manual) is critically important for longevity.
Sealing: Shafts exiting the gearbox housing are equipped with oil seals (gaskets) to prevent oil leakage and the ingress of dust, dirt, plant debris, etc.
Safety clutch: When operating as part of a row, installation of a safety clutch on the gearbox input shaft is recommended. This clutch activates under overload (for example, when a foreign object enters the row), preventing damage to the gearbox and other drive components.
The row gearbox is the most heavily loaded and critical assembly of a corn header; its proper functioning directly affects the productivity and reliability of harvest collection.
