Thuja SMARAGD Thuja Smaragd - a well-groomed, trimmed (fully) plant with a root ball (in burlap), seedling height - 130-150 cm. One of the best conical thuja cultivars with moderate compact growth. An evergreen coniferous tree with a very narrow, correctly conical crown and vertical, very densely arranged branches; slow-growing. Seedling height - 150 cm. Size of an adult thuja: 4 - 6 m tall and 1 - 1.8 m wide. Annual height growth 10 cm-20 cm, width 4-6 cm. At age 10 reaches a height of 2.5 m. Max. crown diameter: up to 1.5 m. Foliage: very decorative, green year-round, tender, scaly, dense, shiny. Fruits: cones are rare, oblong-ovoid, about 1 cm long, brown. Max. crown diameter: up to 1.5 m Care: undemanding, but requires fairly fertile soil. As with all evergreens, do not allow the soil to dry out. Light preference: sun/partial shade. In sun the crown becomes denser and brighter. In shade the crown loses some density. Grows on both acidic and alkaline soils. It is better to buy Western thuja Smaragd seedlings in Ukraine (acclimated) with a root ball, so the plant is not subjected to digging out with the inevitable damage to the root system and after planting is guaranteed to take. Individual characteristics: undemanding, solitary - an excellent thuja for single planting. A valuable cultivar of thuja for creating hedges from 2 to 5 meters. Planting frequency in a row: every 0.6-0.7 m.
