Description:

Repair set for the old-model water pump of the MMZ D-240 engine of the MTZ-80, -82 tractor. Due to the specific design of the housing, this repair kit is not interchangeable with pump housing parts of later designs. At the same time, old-model MTZ pumps are highly repairable due to the simplicity of installing parts using a minimal number of tools. Their drawback is that they consist of a large number of parts, which reduces the service life of the pump as a whole.

The pump design was carried over from the MMZ D-50 engine. Therefore the pulley and hub of the old model are not interchangeable with the pulley and hub of the MTZ-80 water pump of the new model with engines D-240, D-242 and D-243. To install a new-model pulley on a pump of this design, it is necessary to unscrew the new-model hub from the pulley and replace it with the old-model hub.

The assembled seal (fiber) of the water pump is installed in the impeller. During operation the sealing graphite washer slides along the sliding bushing pressed into the pump housing. Thus a reliable seal of the water pump bearing assembly is created.

The seal of this type consists of the following parts:

• Sealing washer (fiber) 14-1312 – 1 pc.
• Seal spring steel 14-1313 – 1 pc.
• Seal sleeve housing SMD1-1314 – 1 pc.
• Seal sleeve ring SMD1-1315 – 1 pc.
• Sealing sleeve SMD1-1316 – 1 pc.

Bearings are usually open, protected by rubber-reinforced seals (gaskets). During assembly, the bearing assembly is filled with grease LITOL-24. To prevent leakage through the impeller seal during lapping of the sealing washer to the housing bushing, it is recommended to lubricate the sealing washer with a thin layer of colloidal-graphite grease.

Sometimes in a pump of this design it is not the graphite sealing washer that wears out, but the sliding bushing. In this case the water pump bushing must be replaced.
