EUROPEAN SPRUCEVariety description: a medium-tall tree 30 m high, sometimes reaches 50 m, 6-8 m wide. In youth (up to 10-15 years) it grows slowly, later faster. Annual growth reaches 50 cm in height and 15 cm in width.Crown: broadly conical, dense, especially at the top. Branches pendulous or spreading, arranged in whorls. Bark gray, peels in thin plates, scaly, rough. Trunk fully woody, straight. Shoots almost horizontal or pendulous, thin, sparsely pubescent or bare, glandular-hairy, with small resin exudations, from greenish-reddish-yellow to brown in color, matte, by autumn becoming red-brown from bark layering.Planting: When planting, the distance between tall spruces should be 2-3 meters, and the planting pit depth should be 50-70 cm. The root collar must be left at ground level. The soil mix is prepared according to the following recipe: turf soil, leaf soil, peat, sand in the ratio 2:2:1:1.Drainage is made of crushed brick and sand, its thickness 15-20 cm. Immediately after planting, apply 100-150 g of nitroammophoska per plant. Later fertilizing the tree is not necessary. In a hot dry summer, young spruce plantings must be watered once a week, 10-12 L (1 bucket) per trunk.
