The inverter generator KS 4000iE S ATS has a built-in ATS unit and can operate in both manual and automatic modes.

The OFF-RUN rotary switch on the right side of the generator combines the fuel valve, the internal 12 V power switch and the ignition switch. When the generator is not in use, it should remain in the OFF position so that the generator’s lithium battery does not discharge. The generator is supplied with the battery disconnected and it must be connected under the left cover before first use. The battery is charged by the internal charging module while the generator is running, or when there is 230 V voltage on the MAINS INPUT (regardless of the rotary switch position).

The voltage on MAINS INPUT 230V is monitored as soon as the rotary switch is set to RUN and the ATS SWITCH is set to ON. If the 230 V voltage on the MAINS INPUT disappears, the ATS controller starts the generator and switches the 230 V sockets to power from the inverter module.

KS 4000iE S ATS has 2 x 230 V sockets that are connected differently depending on the generator version.

Both 230 V sockets are active when running from MAINS INPUT as well as when running from the generator.

When running from MAINS INPUT, the two 230 V sockets have the same system (IT, TN, TT) that comes in on the MAINS INPUT. The generator must be earthed in TT and TN systems with a copper cable of 6-10 mm² (depending on local regulations), connecting its earth terminal screw to the same earth bus to which the 230 V MAINS INPUT supply is earthed.

The two sockets after switching to generator power have an IT system with an isolated neutral. Rules and protective measures for IT systems must be observed.

With this generator variant it is only possible to provide direct backup power to electricity consumers that can operate in both TN and IT networks. Powering an entire house in automatic mode is not possible!

If you wish to automatically power individual electricity consumers or their groups (house, office, etc.) in a TN system with a grounded neutral conductor, we recommend using Version 2 of the KS 4000iE S ATS generator Version 2
