    Hydrangea Leuchtfeuer Hydrangea macrophylla is relatively light-loving; it can be planted in conditions of light partial shade, but the less light, the later the flowering and the fewer the inflorescences. Soil is best slightly or moderately acidic (pH 5.5). Depending on soil acidity, the flower color can be altered. In slightly alkaline conditions they are pink; in acidic conditions they change color to light blue or blue. To obtain blue and blue-colored inflorescences, iron salts and alum must be applied to the soil every two weeks. Grows quickly, is heat-loving, demanding of soil and moisture, does not tolerate lime. Tolerates slight shading, has low frost resistance (to -18 °C). Easily propagated by division of the bush and by softwood cuttings. When cultivated in a greenhouse or indoors, at the very end of the growing season, when the hydrangea begins to shed leaves, the shoots should be cut short. In winter, during dormancy, plants are kept in a cool but non-freezing room (+5 °C), and at the end of winter, when buds swell, they are moved to a warmer and brighter room, but without direct sunlight.
