Variety KOSFORDKosford – a variety of English origin, 1816. A very high-yielding, time-tested hazelnut variety that begins to bear fruit early. The shrub is vigorous, up to 5 meters tall, with a dense, wide crown. It begins fruiting in the fourth year, with very high productivity. Leaves are dark green, broad, oval, turning reddish in autumn. Flowering is early. The variety is self-fertile; with a pollinator present (Galle) yield is higher. It is an excellent pollinator for other varieties.Nuts are large, elongated, with a very thin shell (can be cracked with fingers). Weight of 100 nuts - 330–350 g, kernel yield 55–56%. Fruits fall out easily. Shell is thin, yellow-brown, becoming reddish-brown as it ripens. The kernel adheres very tightly to the shell, is light cream, juicy, tasty. Nuts are large, long, broadly elliptical, slightly flattened and gently rounded at the ends. Harvesting begins from the second ten-day period of September.High frost resistance. Planting of hazelnut seedlings is done in autumn at the end of the plant's vegetation from the second half of October until December, or in spring from the first ten days of March until April (before bud swell). The variety begins to bear early and is very productive. It is a good pollinator for many varieties: Galle, Divo from Bolwiller, Webba valuable, Nottingham, etc. It is well pollinated by such varieties as Galle and red-leaved Lamberta.
