Description:

Repair kit for pump SMD 14-13S2-1 (without pulley), or for water pump 14-13S25 (with pulley).

Designed for major overhaul of the pump of SMD diesel engines with a seal of the water pump of a non-housing design, which is a kit consisting of several races, a rubber bellows, a spring and a graphite sealing washer. All these parts are installed inside the impeller and sealing occurs due to the sliding of the sealing washer against the thrust sleeve SMD 1-1306 pressed into the pump housing.

Before installation, lubricate the sealing washer with colloidal-graphite grease; this is necessary for reliable sealing of the water pump.

Self-tightening frame seal rings (seals) protect the bearings from contamination and from leakage of the grease that fills the bearing chamber of the pump. The bearings in the repair kit are without protective sealing washers (open) and therefore require lubrication.

Water pumps are usually lubricated with the grease LITOL-24, but over the production period of SMD engines several generations of lubricants have changed, so it is recommended to lubricate with less hygroscopic greases with additives that reduce bearing wear and do not lose their properties when moisture gets into the bearings from the repair kit of the SMD-18 old-model water pump. This thereby increases the pump life several times.

The shafts of the SMD-14 old-model water pump were originally manufactured with a blued tail for the pulley hub, blued bearing journals and a chrome-plated tail surface for mounting the impeller. Later, to reduce the cost of the design and optimize the service life of the water pump elements, protective coatings were abandoned.
