Description:

Required for repair of pump SMD 14-13C2-1 and water pump 14-13C25. Contains an impeller designed for installation of a cartridgeless water pump seal (fibre) of the old model. The basis of the impeller consists of a steel bushing with a flat for fixing the impeller on the shaft and protecting it from turning.

Bearings without rubber-reinforced protective washers are installed in pumps of this type, so they require lubrication. The bearing cavity is filled with grease by syringe through a grease fitting, and rubber-reinforced seals (seal rings) prevent the grease from leaking out of the bearing assembly during operation. The advantage of this design is its reparability and, if the grease is changed promptly, the water pump will last much longer than a pump with fully sealed bearings in which the grease is packed for the entire service life of the bearing.

The old-model fibre from the later-version seal (barrel) differs by the absence of a housing in which the spring, cage, and sealing washer are installed. All elements of the old-model SMD water pump seal are inserted into the impeller. Therefore, the graphite sealing washer, if one side is heavily worn, can be flipped to the other side and used for some more time until the washer is completely worn. Before installation, it is recommended to apply a little graphite grease to the sealing washer of the seal to prevent coolant leakage from the pump inspection hole until the graphite washer has fully bedded in against the sliding bushing.

The sliding bushing is pressed into the pump housing and it also wears over time, so before replacing the seal of the SMD-14, -18 water pump, it is important to check the amount of wear of the thrust sliding bushing SMD 1-1306.

The shaft of the water pump has two journals for installing bearings, a tail with a flat for the impeller, and a tail with a groove for installing the pulley hub and a thread for screwing on a castellated nut to be cotter-pinned.
