Specially designed for simultaneous potato planting and incorporation of mineral nutrients into the soil, the potato planter for motor-tractor KS14 (with fertilizer hopper) has high operational qualities and is intended for large work volumes. It is attached to equipment with power of at least 10 horsepower; on motor-tractors it uses a semi-mounted fastening system, on walk-behind tractors it uses a special hitch.
This planter for a motor-tractor is equipped with capacious square hoppers made of sheet steel with a total volume of 120 L. Both hoppers are mounted on a metal frame and securely fixed on a transverse beam made of profile pipe with turnbuckles. Individual chain drives and two intermediate shafts, connected to each other by a special steel sleeve, are provided for each planting unit and fertilizer device. The inter-row distance is fixed at 60 cm.
The planting mechanisms with which the potato planter is equipped consist of a sturdy chain with baskets made of steel wire for tubers up to 60 mm in diameter. The chain conveyor is driven by the traction wheels — the intermediate shaft transmits the torque through the drive chain to the planting mechanism. The moving conveyor lifts the tuber onto the baskets and directs it through the chute into the furrow formed by the coulter; simultaneously with planting, a measured dose of mineral fertilizer is applied from the fertilizer device, after which the furrow is closed with soil.
To adjust the planting pitch to 20 and 25 cm, the potato planter for motor-tractor KS14 (with fertilizer hopper) has two interchangeable sprockets to which the drive chain is moved. Planting depth is set by changing the position of the coulter from 5 to 15 cm. The distance between hillers, height and tilt angle are adjusted by a special fastening system and by the presence of bearings in the disc closers. The maximum productivity of the unit is 0.2 ha/h.
