Compact potato planter for the walk-behind tractor KSN-1MP (with a fertilizer hopper) is used for planting seed potato tubers while simultaneously applying fertilizer into the soil. Seed potatoes are poured into a 45 L hopper equipped with a conveyor with cups. The conveyor operation is driven by a chain drive from the drive wheel/soil-engaging wheel - when the working chain moves, the cups lift the tubers up and drop them into the furrow. For planting it is recommended to use tubers with a diameter no larger than 60 mm.
An additional fertilizer hopper of 4 L, attached to the working unit, operates from the drive of the opposite drive wheel/soil-engaging wheel through a chain drive to a reel device. The planter meters the fertilizer rate for the walk-behind tractor using an adjustment bolt by changing the distance of the valve from the reel.
The potato planter works with walk-behind tractors of power from 10 horsepower, and is attached by a rear single-point hitch system. The planting process is as follows - a steel coulter cuts the furrow, tubers pass into the soil through a guiding part, and two disc closers cover the tuber with soil from both sides. The required spacing between tubers is achieved by changing the sprockets located on the chain drive on the side of the seeding mechanism - 20-25-30 cm.
The maximum productivity shown by the potato planter for the walk-behind tractor KSN-1MP (with a fertilizer hopper) is 0.1 ha/hour. The planting depth of the tubers is adjustable, depending on the height of the coulter - from 5 to 15 cm. The thickness of the ridge covering the potatoes is set by changing the attack angle of the disc closers (diameter 30 cm).
